Solid Fuel Boiler Grants - How does it work?

The Affordable Warmth Scheme is a Government initiative and there are several checks to ensure that only those entitled to assistance will receive solid fuel boiler grant.  The stages through to a new A Rated solid fuel boiler to replace your existing inefficient one are as follows:

  • Complete the form on this page and we’ll telephone you to discuss your solid fuel boiler grant application and to arrange a free survey of your heating system.
  • The ECO Approved Surveyor will require proof of address and may take copies of your current State Benefit award letters.
  • The installation company will apply for a solid fuel boiler grant on your behalf from an ECO Approved Funding Organisation.  The value of solid fuel boiler grants for householders is based on the type of property, how many bedrooms it has and several other factors.
  • Once solid fuel boiler grants are approved, the amount of the grant is compared to cost of installing a new solid fuel boiler in your home. You will know then whether a contribution to the cost is required, or not.  If you do not want to proceed once you know the amount of any contribution you can withdraw your application and there will be no cost to you.
  • A technical survey is then arranged to properly plan your new solid fuel boiler installation.
  • A convenient time will be arranged for your new solid fuel boiler to be installed…….leaving you with a warmer home.
Solid Fuel Boiler Grants - What does the grant cover?

Solid Fuel Boiler Grants are only awarded to householders who satisfy Affordable Warmth Scheme Qualifying Criteria. The scheme only replaces heating systems on a ‘like for like’ basis, so you must have an old, faulty solid fuel boiler installed in your home, to qualify for the solid fuel boiler grants scheme.

The free solid fuel boiler grants scheme covers the cost of a new A rated solid fuel boiler and the installation, in the same location as your existing solid fuel boiler.  Your old solid fuel boiler will be taken away.

Although a small amount of new pipework and any electrical work will also be included, it does not include any new radiators or thermostatic valves.
