Rt. Hon Edward Davey MP announced the launch of the Green Deal Cashback Scheme today with the words, by introducing a cash-back scheme, “energy saving has never been so attractive”. A potential cash-back worth hundreds of pounds is available to householders in England and Wales who make energy saving home improvements funded by the Green Deal.
Energy and Climate Change Secretary Edward Davey claimed that “the Green Deal will be a great offer for people to insulate their homes from the cold” but that the cash-back scheme is based on “first-come, first-served so householders need to be quick off the mark”.
Neil Schofield, Head of External and Governmental Affairs at Worcester Bosch, said that “the Green Deal cash back scheme really underlines the progress being made on the Green Deal” and “will help us to attract early customers, so it’s good news for business too”.
The Green Deal cash back scheme is available to any householder who agrees to make energy saving home improvements under the Green Deal initiative and the amount available in each claim will be capped at 50% of the amount that the householder contributes to costs. In order to qualify, the householder must:
- Have a Green Deal assessment carried out
- Obtain and agree a quote from a Green Deal Provider
- Apply for a cash back voucher by phone or online
- Have the work completed within three months (six months for solid wall insulation)
A total of £125 million is available but the rates currently available are only guaranteed for the first £40 million of the cash back scheme, after which they will almost certainly be reduced. The Green Deal cash back scheme also applies to private and social landlords who can benefit if they are paying the costs of the energy efficient home improvements themselves.
The guaranteed cash back rates for the first £40 million of funding depend on the type of work done. The more work the householder carries out under the Green Deal, the more they can claim in cash back, up to a maximum of £1,000. The initial cash back rates are as follows:
