ECO Scheme Heating and Insulation Grants

ECO Plus Grants scheme is now named the Great British Insulation Scheme

The ECO Plus Grants Scheme started in April 2023 and is expected to run until March 2026.

We can arrange ECO Plus Grants (now called Great British Insulation Scheme grants) will be available to fund the installation of :

  • Loft Insulation, if you have less than 100mm of insulation or none at all
  • Cavity Wall Insulation, if your home has cavity walls but no insulation in the cavity

The new ECO Plus Fund will be aimed at households who ARE able to pay, unlike the Affordable Warmth Scheme which is aimed at households who are less able to pay. If your home is eligible you may receive a single insulation measure but you may be asked to make a small contribution towards the cost.

You do not need to receive State Benefits to qualify for Great British Insulation Scheme grants.

How much is the Government expected to make available for ECO Plus Grants?

The government is expected to make up to £1 billion pounds available for ECO Plus Grants over the next three years.

The scheme is expected to start in April 2023 and should cover energy efficiency measures for more than 70,000 homes.  The ECO Plus Grants fund will be managed by energy suppliers just as the Affordable Warmth Scheme is.

Government ministers will consult on plans to make grants available to householders in homes where the council tax band is A, B, C or D in England or A to E in Wales and Scotland.

Also, your home must have an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) rating of D, E, F or G.  You can find the EPC rating for your home HERE if you live in England or Wales and HERE if you live in Scotland.

Qualifying Criteria for Owner Occupiers

Your home has an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) rating of D, E, F or G.  You can find the EPC rating for your home HERE if you live in England or Wales and HERE if you live in Scotland.

AND…

ECO Plus grants will be available to owner occupiers in homes where the council tax band is A to D in England or A to E in Wales and Scotland.

However, if you receive one of the following qualifying benefits, the council tax band for your home is irrelevant:

  • Pension Credit – Guarantee Credit
  • Pension Credit – Savings Credit
  • Universal Credit
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Income Support
  • Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income-Based Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Child Benefit (subject to household income thresholds)
  • Housing Benefit
Qualifying Criteria for Private Tenants

To qualify for ECO Plus Grants, either you or someone living permanently with you, must receive at least one of the following State Benefits, Tax Credits or Other Allowances:

  • Pension Credit – Guarantee Credit

  • Universal Credit
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Income Support
  • Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income-Based Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Child Benefit (subject to maximum household income
  • Housing benefit

AND

The EPC (Energy Performance Certificate rating) must be D, E, F or G.

How much are households expected to save on heating bills with ECO Plus Grants?

Installing loft insulation can cost up to £1,100 but achieve annual savings of up to £640 per year.

Installing cavity wall insulation can cost up to £2,500 and achieve annual savings of up to £525 per year.

Installing smart heating controls and thermostatic valves can cost around £800 and make savings of up to £525 per year.

In each case the government is expected to meet 75% of the cost of installation.

Solving the energy price crisis

The ECO Plus fund is part of the governments larger effort to help householders reduce their energy bills by around 15% by 2030.

The Energy Bill Relief Scheme has already been launched to help householders with their heating bills over the winter. This includes a £400 non-repayable grant for every household and more for households and pensioners who receive State Benefits

Other schemes will be announced including a £25 million government public information campaign which will provide advice on eight key areas where households can save money on heating bills.

Can anyone apply for ECO Plus Grants?

Householders whose home is in council tax bands A, B, C or D in England or A, B, C, D or E in Wales or Scotland…….

AND

Has an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) rating  of D, E, F or G, will qualify for ECO Plus Grants.

Which areas are covered by the ECO Plus Grants Scheme?

The ECO Plus Grants Scheme has had it’s name changed to the Great British Insulation Scheme, so England, Wales and Scotland are covered by the scheme.

However, although we have almost full coverage of England and Wales, we have restricted access to accredited installers in Scotland. If we do not cover your area please contact your electricity supplier who may be able to recommend an other company.

Do ECO Plus Grants cover the full cost of installing insulation in my home?

ECO Plus Grants will probably cover the full cost of installing cavity wall insulation in your home but not necessarily the full cost of loft insulation. Some householders may have to make a contribution.

How do I find out which measure I qualify for under the ECO Plus Grants Scheme?
